The D3 will do 3d matrix focus tracking up to 9fps, and it usually does a great job. Most often though I use manual focus because I have better control or when I shoot at a higher frame rate.

Inspiring and compelling post, Andrew. Also, you've presented insight into what's behind the crazy addiction to imagery. You're an innovator. YES, DO mix media - if you want to make a video, get a still camera, a crayon, or whatever you want. It's people like you who push photography & art to the next level and keep us all on our toes. Brilliant!

Great post Andrew and thank Scott for always having people that spark our attention. I did a video about a year ago where I tried to piece together photos to create the look/feel of video without it having a video feel. This also allowed me to tweak the photos in PS which accentuated the video. While mine was just a test and a way to show off my new car, I see your videos and they give me more ideas and drive to go out there and make cooler "stillmotion" videos. Thanks so much.

Anyone interested in seeing my "Stillmotion" attempt from a year ago.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hPk7u-516A
