Launching a New Tour is Hard….
…which is why it’s 1:24 am, and I’m in my hotel room preparing for my class tomorrow, and as far as the blog goes today…well…I got nuthin’.
Well, I’ve got one thing—that’s right—an embarrassing photo (seen above). This one is more recent; it was taken during the on-location taping of our opening movie for last year’s Photoshop World keynote (we had a Star Trek theme, and I thought with the new movie opening, and well…ya know).
Shown in the photo above (L to R Back row: Corey Barker (as Lt. Smirnoff), Matt Kloskowski (as “Beta”), Photoshop Principal Product Manager John Nack (as “Major Mancandy”), Crewman #1, RC Concepcion (as Warp), Crewman #2, and Felix Nelson (as Jordache). L to R seated: Dave Cross (as First Officier Jim Beam), yours truly (as Captain Morgan), and Terry ‘Tiberius’ White (I can’t remember Terry’s character. Hey, it’s 1:24 in the morning!) [Ed. Note: It was "T-Bones," which I just figured out after re-watching the opening movie (link added above)].
OK, well, I’ve got to finish up getting everything ready, and I’ve got to get up pretty early, so I’ve gotta get back to work, but I’ll be back in full force (whatever that means), on Monday. Until then, have a great weekend everybody!

Burnin’ the Midnight Oil

I love that photo. Everyone looks so serious. Good Luck with your new class.
Hey Scott,
Just got home from the Down & Dirty seminar in DC. and it rocked. Thanks for a great day.
Frank
Good luck with the tour. Love the photo. Wishing you all would make a tour stop in SLC – we are missing you guys! Travel safe.
You’re not the only one awake at this time! Long life and prosperity!
I love it. It’s my favorite things all rolled into one. Star Trek and a whole bunch of photo gurus. What a great theme. Had I only known I might have made the “Trek”
Gav
“Dave Cross (as First Officier Jim Beam), yours truly (as Captain Morgan)”
Scott, are you sure you’re not burnin’ something other than the Midnight Oil?
Remember,Resistance is Futile.

Thats great.
A good laugh at 12:30 am (west coast time)
Photographers keep the weirdest hours.
Awesome picture. My question is did you guys build that set? Its quite accurate to ST:TNG.
Beam them up Scotty
Hey Scott – Get some rest.
I’ll be in your class in the morning and I don’t want the you knoddin’ off.
See you in class.
I cannot help but wonder why both you and your first office are wearing red shirts (security) rather than gold (command). It’s these little gaffs that just ruin the whole concept….
@Neal Lippman
In TNG, the commanding officers wear red (specifically, Picard and Riker). Red Shirt Syndrome only applies to the original series!
And you totally neglected to mention the babe.. er, female crew members in the back row…
It is all in how it is presented! I can see this new tour is kicking off in fine form. I can’t wait for the creativity that will come out of this early morning burn. I am getting ready to jog on down to the Convention Center for what I know will be a wild ride to the far side of CS4. Thanks Scott for opening the curtain to behind the scenes…
Hey Taylor:
Thats actually the bridge at a Star Trek museum in Las Vegas, NV (used to be in one of the hotels). We were out there for a few days to tape – which was awesome until I had to put the makeup for the outside shots…

I don’t know where is your destination in space. But, for sure, where ever you’ll land people or whatever will know to use Photoshop and becoming a Nikon shooter.
Great composition, great picture.
That’s such an awsome picture, and the character names are hilarious. I haven’t seen it before. But scott, I think Dave Cross would make a better Captain (as in Picard) with you as “Number One” (Riker).
at the danger of sounding like more of a Trekky than I am – I believe Jordache is a clothing company and Geordi is the name of the character.

live long and prosper.
oh never mind… I didn’t read all the names.
Great photo! Guess that shows my geek level and nothing more needs to be said……
Why does everyone look like ” What R we doing dressed up like this”?
Very funny pic.

LOL, you guys always make my day! Good luck with the tour and get some rest, Scott.
BRILLIANT!
The portrait of the bride today is absolutely stunning. She has incredible eyes. Whew!
Love the shot and your blog rocks! Good luck with your new class (I would love to come all the way from Denmark to attend). And by the way – the new star trek movie is awesome (c’,
Scott,
The Seminar today was awesome. Thanks for doing so much to impart your wisdom to us. I learned so much today, and enjoyed meeting you. I encourage everyone to go to this when it comes to your area.
Scott,
Here is a shot from today that will give you a chuckle when you think back to some of the challenges of doing these seminars.

OMG…it all makes sense now.
thanks for an awesome seminar today, scott. it’s my first PS seminar ever and i enjoyed it tremendously. you breezed through so many awesome tricks! can’t wait to go through the workbook and do them all myself. btw, love how you handled the audio problems this morning, w humor & much composure. very cool!
Hey Scott! I’m the big asian guy that bothered you and Corey this morning at breakfast. I work the Night Audit at the hotel you stayed at. I saw your name on the arrivals the other night and I was waiting for you to check in. I had my Photoshop User magazine (which I bring to work to read when I have free time). I was prepared to say, “your stay is sponsored by the publishers of this fine, fine magazine” and then toss the magazine ala Photoshop User TV. Oh well, I didn’t get to perform my comedy routine; however, I was happy to meet you and Corey. I felt like a little school girl meeting the quarterback of the football team. Had you guys not been eating breakfast, I would have taken more of your time to tell you how great both of you are and how I thoroughly enjoy Photoshop User TV and Magazine and Layers TV and Magazine. In addition, I would have told you what I told others on your team; the NAPP membership was the best money I’ve ever spent. The first week I had the membership, I must have logged 80 hours of watching all of the old PSUTV videos and tutorials.
I’m going to try and make the Richmond Seminar even though it’s a 90 minute drive when I could have just gone to the Seminar in DC and walked to it.
Take care!
Bob
What’s happening with the DTown site? It’s crashing every browser – IE, Firefox, Safari. Other than that – great work.
Go to bed!!
Good luck man!
Scott,
This reminds me, I won the new Dirty Tricks book from you about 2 months back and never got my contact info to you. Not sure how to go about that.
Good luck with the tour and thanks for all the valuable information in the books, online, Kelby Training, etc. I’ve found it invaluable!!
Steve
Hi Scott, thanks for the great class. However, I missed one thing. The font that you bought for $60 and you used it in the class. I forgot the name but I remember you said you paid $60. Thanks.
Hi Bernard:
Good news: it was only $15. The font was “Satisfaction” and I got it over at myfonts.com
Thanks again for being a part of the day yesterday (and for putting up with the audio problems. Whew!).

I was hoping that next time, when the president needs new photos of his air-force one, you can photoshop it for him so it’s right in front of the White House lawn to save the country a lot of money. But guess I was wrong. If you will shoot it from space with a star ship, it might actually cost more. Glad you had fun. Thank you for sharing.
I love you Scott …. or SCOTTY ?????

Scott an amazing class you put on in DC. I learned an insane amount of knowledge I can’t wait for the next one. I will be buying lots of your books as well. Were you using a wacom graphics tablet during the class? Or was that just a mouse or touchpad?
Hillarious!! Great post. My wife laughed at your pose.
I’m loving the “star trek” photo! I think the best one is Dave Cross. He looks like he was born for that chair!
I love your blog and hope to see you at one of your “down and dirty seminars!”
Cool theme, “Photoshop in the Bowling Alley.” I mean, I LOVE bowling; the smells, the pins clashing, the…uh..wait a minnit…Star Trek..?
Oh, yeah. I LOVE Star Trek. I mean…
There’s a character in the new Star Trek who looked suspiciously familiar. Kirk winds up in a brawl with this “cupcake” early in the movie. Take a good look at him, especially the eyes.
Sure looks like a hybrid Scott Kelby/Dave Cross CGI actor to me.
