Think Tank’s Airport Security 2 Gets a “Scott Thinks It’s Hot!” Award
My recent trips to Birmingham and DLWS in the Other Banks totally cemented it—-the Think Tank Airport Security 2 is the rolling camera bag of my dreams. It has totally replaced my beloved Lowe Pro Pro Roller 1, which served me well for the past two years, but this Think Tank rolling bag is truly that next level of bag, and now there’s no looking back.
I’m still amazed at how that bag holds as much as it does (I load mine with a 200-400mm f/4 lens, a large 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, a large 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, two full-sized camera bodies, an Epson P-7000, two chargers, a monopod, an SB-900, multiple filters, a Di-GPS unit, and loads of little gadgets that wind up in our camera bags). Besides what it holds; it’s very cleverly designed, well-built, and it’s just a smart bag all the way around (from it’s built-it security cable, to it’s built-in emergency backpack conversion, to it’s hidden ’secret compartment’).
Think Tank really understands photographers, and what we need, and that’s why I’m giving the Airport Security 2 my “Scott Thinks It’s Hot!” Editor’s Choice award. Here’s the link to their site with all the details. (Note: They have an International version, which conforms to Int’l carry on restrictions, but I only have the US edition. If you travel internationally, here’s that link).
Just got my copy of David DuChemin’s New book, “Within The Frame”
When I got to my office yesterday morning, a copy David DuChemin’s just released new book, “Within the Frame” was sitting on my desk. I took it home last night and just couldn’t put it down! There’s nothing like a photography how-to book with stunning photography to inspire you, but his book goes way beyond just inspiration, and teaches you how to think about creating captivating images, and I think that’s why this book is going to be the next big thing. Hats off to David (who is my guest blogger for tomorrow) for creating a very special book (here’s the link to it on Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com). Way go go, man!
Adobe deal: $25 off Lightroom 2 until May 31st.
I saw where Adobe has a $25 off deal on Lightroom 2 running until May 31st. Here’s the link to their online stores (including Int’l) to take advantage of the deal.
Photos From my DC Seminar
Vithaya Photography attended my DC Photoshop Seminar/Audiofest and they were kind enough to send me a link to a gallery of images they took from the day (photo above by Vithaya Photography). Here’s the link to see a gallery of some scenes from the event. My thanks for Vithaya Photography for coming to the seminar, and for being so kind to share these images with my readers.
That’s it for today folks. Don’t forget to check out David’s guest blog tomorrow, and we’ll see you here on Thursday for a photo I’m sure will make me shudder (along with other news bits and stuff).

Looks really cool. I’ve been looking for a new bag. Always been a Tamrac guy, but looking at others now as well.
I like the sound of a rolling case, but also like to throw it on my back sometimes. You mentioned backpack straps but I don’t see it mentioned on the product page.
But rolling suitcases are evil! They make an awful lot of noise and they are a pain to carry as soon as the ground is anything less than perfectly smooth. I only travel with backpacks (or shoulder bags), and once out of the airport, I clip my small carry-on backpack to my large checked-in one. I can walk much faster over any type of ground, and on top of it I get a good aerobic training
On a completely unrelated note, Scott, are we lucky suggestioners for the 3rd digital photography book supposed to have heard anything from you? My name was in the subsequent blogpost, but I have received no email since. Thanks.
Scott, Yeah I’m in the market for a new travel bag and I have the rolling backpack variety, but it’s always hitting the back of my foot and flippin’ and floppin’…especially when you’re going through the breezeway and everyone behind you’s thinkin’. “man! get a grip on your crazy bag!!” I suppose this isn’t a problem with the TTAS2, huh?
Also, now that you have dove eighteen thousand sport shoots with your TT belt system, I assume you still love it?! What belt/bag system did you end up getting? Padded, not padded, is your belt skinned, on steroids or a belly dancer? And what about your medium glass? Pop it down or whip it out? And the other stuff little bag? I need some advice from someone that has used it!!
Thanks!
Do you always check a bag in addition to something like this? What if one wanted to take gear and clothes and not check a bag for a trip lasting say a couple of days?
Scott,
Photos from the DC seminar are all fine and dandy, but we want audio, dude!

So did everybody that was there that day.

ThinkTank also makes a smaller version of the roller called Airport AirStream. This bag will go in the overhead compartments or under the seat.

Scott,
Do you think that the extra 1 inch in depth and 1 inch in height that you lose going with the International version would cramp your packing? Seems like the safer bet would be to go with the International version if you plan on doing any International travel.

Man that place is huge!! I could feel the butterfly’s in my stomach just thinking about taking to a room that size.
Oh no! “Scott thinks it’s hot?” Way too Paris Hilton — please just don’t go down that path!
Scott – how much did your bag weigh after you had it packed? And how did you get it on the plane? Check it?!? Hope not…
Scott..this bag looks real nice. When you get to your destination, how or what do you carry your camera and lenses with on location?
Cheers,
Scotty

Since Scott traveled up to Birmingham to shoot with me, I can vouch for his enthusiasm over this camera bag…he talked about it a lot and showed me how much he got in it! When you can condense everything you need from a couple bags or so into one nifty bag that fits in the overhead bin on an airplane, I can understand him being pretty happy about it.
ThinkTankPhoto totally rocks! I’ve got so much gear stuffed in mine that it’s like one of those small cars with a lot of clowns! Check it out the pics and inventory list:

These are the best bags out there bar none. Once you go TTP, you can’t go back to anything else!
Did you have to side check it on any 50 seater regional jets?
Just wanted to tell you thanks for the Think Tank heads-up. I have been using a backpack that is really nice and holds all my stuff when I travel, but it is heavy. A young man, I’m sure could manage it quite well, but I’m neither a man nor young! I’ve been looking for a well made roller case that I could handle and ended up getting the Think Tank International. It just arrived today and it’s awesome. So well made and the wheels roll like butter! And, it’s got plenty of room for my camera gear (I’m not a professional, but I do have a nice camera and several lenses) and lots of other stuff a gal need when she travels. Thanks for keeping us informed on all the stuff you’ve actually used in the real world. I consider your recommendations to be the “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” of the photography world!
