More Free “Volume 3″ Book Winners
During this past week, while finishing up my Volume 3 of “The Digital Photography Book,” I was able to finally go through the entire list of your suggestions for topics to include in the book (nearly 300) and not surprisingly, I found even more great ideas.
Well, ya know that means—-some more of you are going to get a free signed copy of my book, because your idea wound up getting covered in the new book. Here’s the names of the other readers who’ll be getting a free signed copy:
- Alex Kess
- Mark Celvin
- Daniel Laflor
- Rosario Mannino
- Dwight Atterhol
- MivillePhoto
- Jeff Grandon
- Lee Johansen
- Mark Roberg
Thanks you guys—-you really made a difference, and the book is better because of your suggestions.
One interesting thing about this exercise: I was surprised at how many people listed that they wanted me to cover Photoshop or Elements or Lightroom workflow stuff in the book. Here’s the thing: I actually already have written books that do exactly that (here’s the Photoshop one, the Elements one, and the Lightroom one).
My “Digital Photography Book” series is really about the photography itself—about taking better photos—about how to use your camera—how to work with studio lighting, and off camera flash—stuff like that; not the post-processing that happens after the fact, so Photoshop or Lightroom editing workflows really aren’t appropriate and haven’t been covered in Vols. 1, Vol. 2, or in the upoming Vol. 3. But hey, at least I know books on post-processing workflow still have an eager audience.
One more thing: I’m expecting our in-house shipment of my new Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks Book any day now, and as soon as they arrive, I’ll be signing and sending out copies to those folks who helped me out with ideas for that book.

Thanks Scott, we appreciate you writing such enlightening, to the point, fun, books. I’m just glad I could contribute something of substance to you. I really can’t wait to read the new book and add it to my collection with the others.
Scott Thanks for all you do, DO you knowif it is leagl to install someone elses old version of PS if they deactivated it because the upgraded ? If so I am trying to find 30 people who can help our school out ( elementary school in East TN ) I know its not an orphanage in Africa but we are in need also. Lookingtotry and find 30 people who have upgraded to cs4 ( Photoshot ) and would be willing to give our school the old copy of cs3 so we can do some photoshop things in class. if you can help or know of a way for other to help please let me know.
Thanks

Hey, Scott,
Since “The Digital Photography Book” series is based on the premise of “what I would tell you if we were out on a shoot together;” when Volume 3 comes out, what if you held a contest and offered “go on a shoot with Scott Kelby” to the person who could raise the most money for Springs of Hope, Kenya?
I’m sure your time is at a premium, but this (or something similar) would be fun, generate interest and awareness for the orphanage, …plus, I’m thinkin’ you could raise a LOT of money!
whats the esitmated time on getting the book to my local borders bookstore.
Hi Scott.
I just saw my name on the list, and I am completly giddy with happiness!
Thank you for the boost of happiness you just gave me!
I don’t know which one of my ideas you liked, but I’m fully expecting a chapter on how to argue about Canon vs. Nikon like a pro. (how to make fun of 9 focus points vs. 51. *Ha!*)
I can’t wait till this book comes out! I will probably devour the whole thing in one night like I did for the first two!
Did you notice by the way that I love ending my sentences with an exclamation point?!
Thanks again,
Mark!
Thanks, Scott, this made my day.
Do we get our names in the contributor credits inside the book, too? I’ve always wanted to get “published.”
I’ve been excited since hearing about this next volume, can’t wait to see what’s on deck. Good luck finishing it off.
while reading this post remembered one annoying question, which bothers me all the time. meyby you can cover it in your next book, or this blog. and the question is: how to clean sensor, and keep it clean. because all photos with big f numbers is rude by dust. especially for macro and nature shots, then you are forced to use bigger f numbers for better results.
thanks, Marius.
Hi! Thanks so much. I’m such a big fan of your books and, of course, your show.
Hi Scott,
I bought your books as I like your idea of not going too in-depth and that you just tell the shooter what settings to make for a particular shot. I have found the books very helpful, but one suggestion that may assist myself and other readers is to have the required settings in bullet points rather than within the paragraph.
I guess if you sit and read the book for the first time it doesn’t matter, but once you have the book in your camera bag and use it as a reference tool, then the bullet point format for the camera settings will help the shooter pick out the required settings and dial them into the camera much faster.
This is by no means a critisism on your books, but just something that I would have liked and therefore other readers might also have found useful.
Carry on the good work, your books have helped me tremendously.
Thanks and best regards,
Peter
Hi Scott,
I have a comment concerning your book, “The digital Photography Book #2″.
In the section on Macro Photography, p. 175, you state that “. . .(the higher the number the lens . . . (so a 65 mm macro lens might get you the entire bee, but a 105 mm lens will get you so close you can get just the bee’s head).” This is not an accurate statement. Most macro lenses give a 1:1 magnification, eg., CANON EF 100 & 180 & EF-S 60; all Sigma macros.
All macro lenses that gives 1:1 magnification all give the same size image (on the same camera). The only advantage of the longer lens is that distance from the subject increases with focal length.
You may want to correct this in future printings of the book.

Hey Scott, I see the book is out and was wondering when I’d be seeing the book. I’m super excited to read it and have almost bought it a few times until I remind myself that I’m on this list. Thanks.
Yes – me too !
