Great job Eddie! Fantastic shots... fantastic teacher! Learning to SEE the light has changed my daily experience. Now I embark on learning to take advantage of the light...without you by my side... now THAT is the trick!

Thanks for all of the inspiration Eddie, I had not heard that quote from Ansel Adams, and I absolutely love it. It's pretty funny that you blogged about seeing the light, for the simple fact that I actually spent Memorial Day in my apartment working on just that. I wanted to work on my product photography.

I don't have any real studio lighting yet, most of the work that I have done has been natural lighting, and hdr ect... I always relied on Photoshop and digital lighting. But I really wanted to challenge myself, so I bought some painters lights from Lowes. Using a 200 watt bulb, and two 60 watt bulbs. I wanted to diffuse the light so I used some white matte board. I set the lights up to reflect off of the matte board in return for diffused light.

I shot a pair of Sony headphones. Having worked as a freelance retoucher for a commercial photography studio, I learned a lot about manual masking exposures in Photoshop to create that perfect Light that you just can't capture in one shot. So I would focus on one area of the headphones at a time, shaping the light as needed. I used the auto bracket feature on my camera to capture the entire tonal range, knowing that I would manually mask in the parts as needed to create my final image. And it just so happens that Scott's new book Down and Dirty Tricks, has a great technique for finishing off this headphone shot. And oddly enough, it was the same pair of headphones that I own, and set up a shoot for!

Thank you Eddie, for everything. As I grow as a photographer, I am starting to see the light, and acknowledging the fact that it is the native tongue of photography. You, Scott and all of the NAPP guys have made such a difference in my life. The education is fun, exciting and fulfilling! Take care bud.
