Hi folks. Here’s what’s goin’ on.
- Jay Maisel, a true living legend of photography, is hosting a week-long workshop this fall, and I’m telling you this early because like all his others, it will probably sell out months in advance. It kicks off Monday, September 14 at Jay’s studio in NYC and runs through Friday, September 18. For more details click here.
- I did something special yesterday for the folks following me on Twitter. If you’re following me, go check it out (here’s the link).
- We now have well over 11,000 photographers registered to be a part of my Worldwide Photo Walk on July 18th, and we have over 760 walks. We are totally psyched!
- A big thanks to the blog “Inkd” for naming Layers Magazine to their list of “The 15 Best Magazines for Print Designers.” We are truly honored.
- Our friends at Barnes & Noble are running a special 30% off promotion this month (in stores and online) on a bunch of Peachpit Press books (including some of my own, along with Jeff Revell’s new book and David DuChemin’s, among others), Here’s the link for more details (the promotion ends at the end of this month).
- Our buddy and friend of the blog, Dwayne Tucker did a behind-the-scenes article on a recent on location lifestyle photo shoot on his blog. If you’ve got a quick sec, you can check it out right here.
That’s all I’ve got for today. We’ll see ya back here on Thursday after a very special Guest Blog tomorrow. Have a kick-butt Tuesday!

Good morning, Scott, thanks for the Lightroom tip, …I’ll need to practice that sound so I can use it!
I am wondering if you might be able to answer a question. I have been re-reading the Digital Photography Book, Volumes 1 & 2, with our children looking over my shoulder. They have been begging me to ask if you know the name of the animal in the photo on page 186 of Vol. 2. (Did you use your super-stretch lens for that one)?
Scott,
My PhotoWalk group in Birmingham is already full! I’m excited (I know…hard to picture that, right?)!
Hey Scott,
Great info, and awesome tip in LR and ACR on Twitter. Have you been hearing the buzz around the “Apple” tree. New iPhone 3gS and 3.0 software update to be released on 6/19. Saw some video for the new iPhone on MSNBC this morning. Has a little bit better camera(selective focus), as well as it being bumped from 2mp to 3mp. Also shoots video as well. Apple’s also releasing a cheaper notebook. Not sure about the specs on it yet. Have a good one.
Take Care,
J Miller
Scott, I have a random question. I normally shoot nature and landscapes but lately, I have had people ask me to do portraits for them. I don’t mind, but I do not have any flashes or other materials to do portraits. I plan on shooting them at the local botanical gardens and at a sculpture park. Do you think it’s possible for me to take some decent portraits without everything normally used? Do you have any advice for shooting without all the equipment? I currently shoot with a Sony A200.
Thank you and take care.

WOW!! Only $5000 Plus Transportation and Hotel for a week with Jay. I can spend a month in Europe or 2 Months in our own Southwest and not spend that kind of Bucks. He might be good maybe Great but it sounds like a real ripoff to me. I can go to Singapore all expenses for a Week for less than $3500.
