More Worldwide Photo Walk Images Honored
Today I’m going to give my personal favorites in a bunch of different categories, from images that didn’t become one of the finalists or the Grand Prize winner, but I felt were so great that they deserved some recognition as well.
Here’s what so amazing to me about all this. If the winning images you saw yesterday, and here today, were entered in a regular photo contest, none of us would blink an eye—-a great image is a great image. But most contest allow you to choose any photo from your entire lifetime of shooting, or perhaps any photo taken in the last year, or any photo in a particular category. But in this case, here’s what the photographers were up against.
- They were not able to choose the location (it was chosen for them).
- They were not able to choose the time of day (it was chosen for them).
- They were only able to shoot for two hours.
- They shot in the light that was there. They couldn’t go back later (or earlier) in better light.
Yet they came away that images that are inspiring, creative, and in many cases, breathtaking! That’s what makes this so special. Two hours. That’s it. And look what they came up with! To me, that makes these images, and the ones chosen yesterday, all the more amazing.
Before we get to seeing some images, there were some recurring themes in the types of photos that where picked by local winners, and went into judging to become finalists. For example, there were:
- Lots of HDR shots
- Lots of shots of other Photo Walk photographers
- Lots of shots of reflections
- Lots of shots of homeless people
- Lots of shots of children
- Lots of bees landing on flowers
- Lots of people seen through store windows
- Lots of Bridges
- Lots of Churches (inside and out)
- Lots of shots of statues and art
- Lots of shots of stairs
- Lots of train shots
Anyway, it gives you an broad view of what people wound up shooting a lot of.
The images that follow are my favorites that didn’t make their way into the prize category, but are nonetheless deserving of recognition:

Thank for great experience !!!!!
Great shots all around. I’ll have to disagree with you on the best Macro shot though. One shot in the Albany NY walk with the same subject matter was far more stunning.

It’s great to look at all these amazing shots taken around the globe on the same great day. In The Hague we had really bad weather, but it didn’t break the spirit. I really enjoyed the one month use of Kelby online training! The perfect replacement for summertelevision and learned a lot. On top of all this, my tourleader arranged a deal for a free Nikon camerabag! I don’t want to miss the next WWP, that’s for sure

John
I’m really proud of the photographer whose shot I selected – Nicola Corboy (best floating people). To get in the “Almost Made It” list is fantastic, given the amazingly high standard of entrants this year!!
Scott, I’m glad you chose to recognize more great shots. I also enjoy reading your comments on why you liked each shot.
One thing. There are tons of shots that did not make the best in each group, that are every bit as good as the winners on these pages. How difficult and subjective it must be, to pick a select few for the prizes.
I’m just so glad to have participated!
Scott, One more thing… If you saw this shot:

That was me who made those Kelby masks. Just to have a little fun!
We photographed them in strategic settings to! Hehe!
Dear Scott,
It has been a lovely experience to be a part of the photowalk for the 2nd year. I Have one request.. Coming year onwards.. can we have a voting by the photo walkers in the city to vote for the best image in their city that becomes the city winner.. rather than group leader selecting the photo… I belive that would be a more versatile judgement.
I particularly loved your selection at the blog http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2009/archives/6195 rather than the city winners list.. Well.. there is no doubt that the final list of winners are ineed commendable.. they are the true deserving ones..
Cheers!
Scott,
It was late yesterday that I was informed by our photowalk leader that I was on this list. I can’t express how honored that my photograph: Best ‘Cutsie” shot that makes you smile as one that caught your attention.
I must give credit to Rick Sammon who inspired me to “make a photograph” as apposed to take a photograph.
Thanks Rick and thanks to you Scott that you have given recognition to a 77 year old who’s interest in photography started at the age of seven.

I’d like to thank you for your compliments on my image from the Photowalk, Punta Gorda Gas Station. I went to Punta Gorda from my home on Solomons Island, Maryland so that I could participate in the walk with my father who lives in Port Charlotte, FL. I thought it would be a fun thing to do with him. He told me that he didn’t really think that there was anything to photograph in the area chosen. I told him that one of the reasons for doing it that way was that a real photographer can find an image almost anywhere and the real point of the Photowalk was the camaraderie.
So thanks for compliment, and the opportunity to do something with my Dad and the other photographers from Punta Gorda, I made a couple of new friends.

Maybe you can have more creative titles!!!
Hey Guys,
Its a cool site where you make money for pretty much all the things you already do on all the social networks.
You also get paid to refer people. Pretty self explanatory. Its called http://digg.com/d314nLU – PeopleString
