Dear Mike,

In addition to the community and human based comments made by Russel Friedman, it is vital that people (the tourism operators...and guests) remain focussed on preserving and conserving the countries wilderness and wildlife refuges. Tourism operations continue to play a vital role in this costly but vital function.

Dear Mike

I am one of the directors of Wilderness Safaris and I disagree 100% with yoru comments. Tourism in fact helps those people who need it most and does not suppor the regime in Zimbabwe. Our presence in Zimbabwe has been supporting nearly 20,000 Zimbabweans in the areas in and around the wildlife reserves we operate in. We cannot walk away from the people and must continue in assisting them to make change.

Sorry I can't take advantage of this - but for schedule and $$, I'd be there in an instant. Dana Allen is wonderful nature photographer and teacher; he has lived in Zimbabwe for many years and photographed all over southern Africa. I was privileged to shoot in Botswana last year with he and David Cardinal. The wild creatures of these countries need tourism if there is to be any hope of preserving them and their habitat. Photo safaris are a great way to spread that message of wilderness preservation to more people.

The parks need tourism in order to survive. The preservation of the wilderness is infinitely more important than who is or isn't in power politically, and is not a price worth paying - it will change nothing and Mugabe would still be in power till he died.

Lived in Zimbabwe for 16 years. It WAS a great country until around 2000. Hwange is a paradise. Hope the last 10 years haven't completely destroyed it. I know it has deteriorated a lot. Wish I could make this trip. More, I wish I could be rebuilding the country.

Sorry Scott, with the incredible human rights abuses in Zimbabwe, there should be no support for the regime in it's current state. Expeditions like this perpetuate the regimes fascade of normality while killing their people through neglect and corruption. I am not sure many really the truly abhorrent condition of the country. The more dollars that are pumped in, the longer the abuse continues. Born in Africa, it is truly sad to see such a wonderful country brought so low by on individual and his regime.
