Today We Celebrate: The Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage has opened its doors!
I am absolutely thrilled to share that last night I got an email from my friend Molly Bail from Springs of Hope, Kenya, to let me know that today they’re welcoming the first children to the Orphanage that you, the readers of this blog, helped to build.
Your contributions literally helped finish the roof on this orphanage earlier this year, and then later you helped buy the beds, furniture, and kitchen appliances, and now today there are homeless children that are homeless no more because of your gracious generosity. I am incredibly thrilled, and humbled at what you all have done in supporting the construction of this Orphanage.
In her email, Molly calls today’s opening a “soft opening” because they are still dealing with some electrical issues, but the first children arrive today, and are sleeping under a roof you helped build tonight. To me, that’s a grand opening indeed. (The photo’s above are from Molly, and the captions are hers as well).
It’s been a real struggle for Molly and Joseph to build this orphanage half way around the world, and in the past few months they have really struggled to clear the final hurdles, approvals, and mountains of red tape like you would not believe, but today we have something wonderful to celebrate.
Whatever else happens in your day, and whatever hurdles life throws at you today, just remember that because of your contributions, a homeless child now has a home, food, and has two people in Molly and Joesph that will love and protect them.
Honestly, there’s no adequate way to thank you all for what you’ve done. The phase “Thank you” isn’t enough, but thank you.

What a happy day, Scott!!! God bless Molly and Joseph in all that they do!
Thanks for giving me/us venue to be able to help
Awesome news and a great day to celebrate! Thanks for making my day! I was all geeked up about the Help-Portrait progress I made this morning and now this! It’s been a great day and it’s not even 9am!
Is there a link to this charity to donate?
Hey Ken – Here’s the link to their website, which has a donate link right on the front page: http://www.springsofhopekenya.org/
Thanks!
Thank you. Done.
Wow! It feels so good to see the results. Thank you Scott for making us a part of it.
Fantastic news, Scott!! Thanks for sharing. What a blessing – nice work everybody – let’s make sure we continue to remember this great cause with our support now that it’s in operation!
Thanks for sharing the news and pics — nice way to start the day — and now I’m off to LA to spend the day learning from McNally. It is a good day!
A great day indeed – and while you thank the readers, without your efforts to even bring the Springs of Hope to our attention, none of it would have happened. Very much in keeping with the guest blogger post this week from Tyler – those of you that are so generous in giving back are an inspiration to us all!
great day!!!
unbelievably awesome!
The sun is a little brighter and smiles are a little wider today indeed!
Congrats to Molly and Joseph for chasing the vision and getting to see the vision turn into reality!
What good news! Please tell Molly and Joseph how proud we are of all their hard work.
That’s great. I know a pastor from a village in Uganda and they have a small orphanage their that has they’ve been building up as well. Much smaller, but a similar vision.
It’s amazing how different things are in other parts of the world. Things we take for granted are things the average people don’t have.
That is one of the nicest orphanages I have seen. I know it will be a huge blessing to all those who find shelter under its roof!
Warms my heart. God bless them.
Excellent to see the beginning of a new future for many beautiful kids!
Congrats…this is indeed wonderful news.
Praise God! Thank you, Scott, for living out James 2:15-16.
That’s fantastic, for a moment there I thought it was the new set to PhotoShop user TV, what with the three bunk beds and all.
Amazing.
I’m so happy that this project reaches its goal. And so happy for the children who will arrive tonight.
Let this be the beginning of something amazing for these children!

This blog post really made my day! I am also humbled with how you take the time to thank “us” after you offered so much of yourself through time, effort, goods, generosity and an enormous heart (no retouching there!)
Molly & Joseph are absolutely special people to have undergone this great project – really moving and while “our” role tiny – I had a little twinge of pride and glow of happiness as you you reached out and gave “us” the chance to be apart of something wonderful!
My thoughts and warm wishes for a happy future to the children who will be sleeping tonight in a comfortable dwelling surrounded by those who genuinely care – along with much admiration to you, Molly and Joseph! …Great job guys!

This looks great Scott. There are an incredible number of orphans in Kenya (most due the high rate of aids) and without folks like Molly and Joesph these kids would have little chance.
Well we all helped to build it with our donations via the very generous promotions Scott offered, so I’ve just sent them another to help keep it going.
Maybe Scott will keep us up to date with what’s going on from time to time.
Hi! I’m a Swedish student, and very interested in photography. I have a task to write an essay on a famous photographer. As I love your work and have read your book Digital photography, and found it very inspiring, funny and helpful, I have chosen to write about you. No, I’m having trouble finding information about you. I know all about your accomplishments, your books and your nine jobs. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions. These are;
When did you first get interested in photography?
How did you get from being an amateur to a professional? (Did you have contacts in photography or did you send pictures in to magazines? How were you discovered by the world?)
What are your favorite subjects?
What do you think is the best part of being a photographer?
Do you have any plans for the future?
Thanks for your time and help! I hope you have a great day!

Scott, the orphanage looks great and I know your friends are thrilled. I hope that things continue to go well for them. Love the shots…it looks like a very inviting place for kids. How lucky they are to have Molly and Joseph fighting for them and I know that your friends will receive much love for their efforts.
I need to see if I can load this program on more than one computer. I have tried to find the answer from a lot of sites and no one seems to know. Does anyone know?? I have another IMAC in my office and will need the program on both computers….please, tell me I won’t have to purchase two full sets of this program…!!
I need help….I am not sure this is the right forum to ask this question of, but if Scott or anyone knows , please answer it for me. I have searched everywhere to find out. I am in the process of collecting enough money to buy Photoshop CS4(full version, not upgrade) for my new IMAC
Good luck to Molly and Joseph.
Thanks in advance for ANY help.

If you’re purchasing a full version of Photoshop, it is my understanding that Adobe allows you to run two copies. I have the creative suite CS4 on my desktop machine and a laptop. So, I’m assuming they same would hold true for just Ps CS4. You really should consider saving a bit more for the entire CS4 suite (far more bang for the buck).
A friendly note, next time simply check Adobe.com for these questions – you’ll find a great deal of useful info and answers.

Wow this is amazing!
Wow, this is so exciting! Congrats, Scott and team. Must be an extraordinary feeling to finally see the doors open.
Is there a way to send a care package to the new orphanage? How many kids total? What ages currently? GREAT job everyone involved. Thanks.
