Special “This Weekend Only” Deal from MPIX on the Same Type of Prints and Mounting I Buy
Last week we called the guys over at MPIX.com and asked if they would run a special deal just for readers of this blog on the exact same type of prints and mounting that I order from them all the time.
I usually order 16×20″ prints on Metallic Paper, and then I get them mounted on black foam core. Everybody loves the way they look with that paper and black mounting, so I thought it would be the perfect one for a special like this. (Watch the really short video I did above to see an example of what I’m talking about).
I also use these mounted prints fairly often as gifts (I have MPIX ship the mounted prints directly to the person I want to send the gift, and I can’t tell you what a great reaction it gets—especially since they ship flat in a large thin box).
Anyway, for this weekend only, readers of this blog can upload your image to them, and they’ll create that same 16×20″ metallic print of your image mounted on foam core for just $28.93 each (plus shipping). This deal (which would normally run you $34.04) expires at Midnight CST this Sunday, and you have to enter this special promo code when you check out to get your discount:
kelbyblog15
Don’t forget to enter that promo code—or you’ll have to pay the full price (15% more). Also, under Framing and Mounting, choose Foam Core. Here’s the link to MPIX.com so you can set up your account (it only takes two minutes), and upload your image(s). Anyway, once you get your print (or prints), drop me a comment here on the blog to let me know what you think.
Thanks to Joe, John and the gang at MPIX for hooking my readers up with this weekend deal. You guys rock!

I am interested in printing an image that is black and white, except for one person that is in full living color. Any opinions on how well this would translate to the Metallic Paper? I have only ever seen color prints on this paper – not sure how well it does on black and white.
I have printed several black and white images using the metallic paper and love the look of them. I have been working on a civil war sites project using an infrared camera and I print all of them on the metallic paper. Some of the images I process as B&W and the blacks really pop from the metallic shine. The results have been great.
Reds and golds really leap out if those are the colors of your spot
I just received my 24×16 print. Packaged up very professionally. The picture quality exceeds my wildest expectation. B&W and the colors really pop off the page.
Thanks for putting this together Scott. Now off to order up some christmas gifts (at the full price)
Scott,
You pointed us toward Cheetahstand.com a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a boom stand and their 16″ QBox (speedlight softbox) and just got it in the mail. I am impressed! The quality is great, it’s super sturdy, and the softbox is also well constructed, and it’s a steal of a deal. The service is also terrific, and I recommend the products. Thanks for the tip. Can’t wait to see my Mpix prints.
Levi
Thanks for the tip. I have been interested in the metallic paper for some time now.
Does this coupon work for mpixpro?
Ed
Ed, I mistakenly just ordered a metallic print via my MPIXPRO.com account and the discount was not applied. After writing MPIX, I was informed it’s only available on MPIX.com.
Agreed. This only works with MPIX.com, NOT w/ MPIXPro
Thank you so much, Scott!
I have been planning to give some large prints from MPIX as Christmas gifts this year. You just lightened the load on my wallet. A very early Merry Christmas to you, sir!
Thanks!
Logan
Hi Scott,
Those prints look great. There’s an audio problem with the video you posted. I can’t hear you speak.
Audio is mono and you need to listen through your left headphone speaker…
Leoraul, thanks!
Scott,
I have been meaning to try the metallic paper and you just reminded me to give it a try….What is Lustre coating? Is it worth getting? Thanks!!
This is too cool! I use metallic prints more than anything else and NOBODY does it like MPIX. They are by far, the best in the business! Thank you.
Thank you for the deal! I would love to see a tutorial that covers all the steps necessary to prepare an image for printing by a service like MPix. I am not sure how much to sharpen, for instance. I am also unsure how to determine if what looks white to me will print white and if what looks black to me will print black. It would be very expensive to pin these two factors down through trial and error. Do you have a tutorial like this? If not, would you be willing to produce one? Thank you.
Hi Scott,
Thought you might get like this one. I laid out one of my images in InDesign in a grid formation and then used Mpix to print it out as a wall cling as this was the biggest I could get them, but I had it framed by a local guy to make it stand out a bit more. This is the 3rd Mpix wall cling I have had done – love their stuff. Here is the finished product: http://www.flickr.com/photos/welshevans/4099917316/ Gotta love Mpix!
Just ordered my Willie Nelson photo (and won’t have to wait long to see it). Do you know if there is a limit?
Hey Scott
Just wondering why you seem to regularly order a 16×20 when the aspect ratio of the camera you use calls for a 16×24?
With a D-3 you can set it to a 4×5 ratio which would be 16×20. I usually shoot fx size and just leave a little to frame any size. A 16×24 would be equivilent to 4×6 ratio. I’m sure Mpix is only going to put one size on special.
I ordered a 16×24 print today, and the 15% discount was applied without any issues. The discount is not limited to just 16×20 prints.
BTW: I already received an email that it has shipped. These folks at Mpix rock!
what was that nearly invisible hanging material you mentioned a few months ago? do you use it for this size/weight metallics?
thanks
hello, thanks for the plug, never tried mpix, i don’t even know if they ship in Canada.. will tcheck it out.. Little question..When will NAPP will do something in Canada ? There is always many activities going on in the US…seminars, etc… I would be please to help if you decide to organise something in Montreal or Quebec…. thank you, Mike
Hi Mike,
I order from Mpix all the time into Canada. I always try and get several orders into them at the same time so that the shipping doesn’t hurt so much. But on the bright side the prints are great and get here to Merritt BC in about 3 days. Nothing beats that for sure.
Brian
i did look..30$ shipping to Canada…look like we are in Japan… + custom i guess.. i have to move to Florida.. keep the great work!
So, Scott, are these foam core mounted prints ready for hanging, or do they need other prep? If so, how do you hang them. I noted the back was sans hanging device.
Thanks.
I LOVE THE PRINTS ON METALLIC PAPERS AND MY CUSTOMER’S TOO. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF SINCERE COMPLEMENTS WITH PICTURES PRINTED ON METALLIC PAPER.
Scott…..huge thanks for the promo code. I just made the order and I can’t wait to get the print.
Rob
Hey Scott, Just wanted to let you know that I ordered a metallic print from MPIX this morning and using your promo code, got the discount! Thanks for everything, Scott! You are a Blessed man!
Dennis
Thanks for the tip and pushing for a discount for us. I just ordered several metallics on foamcore. And I got the discount on sizes other than the 16×20 also! Awesome!
How do you get the BLACK foam core? I saw the choice area for foam core . . and the choice for black corder, but the border cuts off part of my print. Is black foam core automatic? Or does it need to be a special request?
hmm . . maybe it’s the “discount code” that tells MPIX to make it with black foam core. Guess I’ll find out in a few days.
Scott:
Thanks for the tip to go to MPIX for prints. I can’t wait to see the images I sent printed on metallic paper. Would never have known about the foam core without your comments. Keep up the execellent work with the blog and NAPP. Loved the Vegas conference. Learning can be fun.
Thanks
Larry
Scott,
Thanks! Great!!
You and Photoshop Guys all seem to use MacBook Pros. So how do you color calibrate your computer or adjust your computer or camera raw settings to get what you want to see in your prints from Mpix? Appreciate any help you can give. Many thanks.
John
Got the metallic prints ordered even thought Mpix ordering is one of the most frustrating on the web.
But here’s a serious question: has anyone tried the Mpix card making software with Snow Leopard? I can’t open my existing cards or upload them and I need to order right away. Any ideas?
Hi Scott,
Mpix is great but there is a big problem, tehy not shipp international, so i cannot have they good products couse i’m from Italy:( !!!!!!!
Do you know any grate online service in europe like mpix?
I took a leap of faith, and ordered 3 metallic prints.
Scott –
YOU ROCK! I ordered (7) metallic prints for gifts for the holidays! THANKS FOR THE TIP! It will be perfect and I APPRECIATE all you do to INFORM us about these specials. Saved me A LOT of $$$! I’ve learned SO MUCH from you – what more can I say – you’re the B.E.S.T.! ! !

DT.
I started using mpix after reading one of your books. Your recommendations always pan out well for me. I have to say they are the best prints I have ever seen by a landslide. I love the metallic and Black and White paper choices, custom framing that you can see before you buy, and the floating “standout” prints. Very cool.
Got my 3 metallic prints! I’m sold!!!
Got my MPIX print. It’s AWESOME! Thanks, now I have a Christmas gift for this year, assuming my husband lets it out of our sight.
Scott,
Thanks for the deal at Mipx. I am a regular user of Mpix but never have used the Metalic prints. They are great. Thanks again for putting ne on to something new.
Tony
Wow! That is all is can say. I took you up on the offer and ordered a 16″ x 24″ print of my Aunt in a row boat on a lake with soft ripples. I opened the box a few minutes ago and when I saw it, my jaw dropped. It was so beautiful and it made the water look beyond description. Not to mention, it shipped out the day after I ordered it. This kind of information is why I love blogs. You never know what you are going to run across. Now, I can’t wait to look through my photos to see what I am going to send in next! Thanks for the information Scott.
This is the first print that I’ve ever had mounted. Is it common for the foam core to stick out outside of the pictures?
See image for reference: http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/3099/img0048y.jpg
I got my pictures back. Can’t wait to order more of them. The colors really pop with the metallic prints!
Thank you so much! Got my print and I absolutely love it!!!!! I will be ordering more for Christmas gifts as well as giving gift cards for MPix which was another great idea of yours. Love your work, love your blog. Thanks again!
Gotta love you for continuing to work deals in the industry, Scott, it’s a benefit for everyone, top to bottom.
Thank you Scott for setting up this deal! I had a problem with my print but was blown away by the customer service. My photo arrived with a large crease (the print was not mounted taught over the board, leaving some black foam exposed and causing the fold/crease). I emailed them explaining the problem and in no time they had it reprinted and shipped out again for free! Incredible prints and incredible service.
Scott, I recently ordered some prints from MPIX from a trip we took this Fall to Acadia NP and wow! I am floored. I also just sent a framed image to a friend and they were equally as floored. Thanks for the great tip.
Once again Scott, you RAWK! Sometimes I feel all I do is copy others, but this is amazing. I have been using Mpix forever, but never metallic paper. Based on your post here I just did a 16” x 24” on metallic paper and it is amazing! My local frame shop will mount it on foam core for half the price of Mpix so I save some bucks there and on shipping. Thanks again, I may never go back to other types of paper.
