Tuesday News Rodeo (Lite edition)
Photoshop Pranks!
The new episode of Photoshop User TV (which goes live some time today), is our year-end episode, and rather than doing the usual stuff, we foolishly decided to instead share our all-time favorite Photoshop pranks (ya know—stuff you can do to co-workers and friends copies of Photoshop so it kind of drives them insane, slowly. Painfully. Hilariously). That part is actually pretty cool, but after that, Dave and Matt went on to reprise the dramatic conclusion of “As The Snowman Turns” which…well…you just have to watch it, but be forewarned—-the acting is…well…you just have to watch it.
Here’s the link to watch the new episode, but just for the record—I apologize in advance for the whole snowman/monkey art nuoveau film at the end, which some viewers may feel is a trite, pompous soliloquy weighed down by an obvious lack of imagination saddled with awkward script that sometimes feels forced, leaving the viewer frustrated and confused as the monkey fails to establish himself as the hero of a post apocalyptic utopia where the snowman, who phones in a somewhat pedestrian performance in what could have been his On Golden Pond moment, falls pray to a director whose cinematographic swan song may be this mostly unwatchable slow-paced and grossly clichéd story that barely stays afloat with two clashing perspectives that neither delight nor challenge the viewer. (Note: the new episode is #215, so make sure that’s the one you watch).
Monday Night Football
Yesterday morning my wife and I flew up to Chicago to catch the Monday Night Football game featuring the Chicago Bears (my adopted team), who gloriously beat the Minnesota Vikings in Overtime, and get this—-I did not shoot the game. That’s right; I could have shot the game from the sidelines (in fact, my wife even encouraged me to go ahead and shoot), yet I chose to just hang out with my wife and friends and miss my chance to not only shoot The Bears from the sidelines, but my only chance to shoot Brett Farve playing probably ever. I should get some serious husband points for this.
Catch my short interview with Cafe Press
Cafe Press, the company that printed the “Channel 1, Group A” off-camera flash t-shirts for me (and my Worldwide Photo Walk t-shirts as well), asked me to do a short interview with them on a variety of topics (stuff like, “If you could lead a photo walk anywhere in the world, where would it be?”) and you can read it online right here.
Very cool Photographer and Photoshop Compositor
One of my readers, Mike V., turned me onto the word of Sean Busher in a comment posted here last week, and I took a look at his stuff, and it is very cool (I love it when great photography and great Photoshop skills come together).
Here’s the link to check out his work (thanks for the heads-up Mike).
Epson videos
Our friends at Epson have posted a series of videos at the Epson Professional Imaging site about their printers hosted by folks I’m sure you know well, like Jay Maisel, John Paul Caponigro, Jeff Schewe, and Greg Gorman (among others). If you got a sec, they’re very well done, and you can catch them right here.
That’s it for this week everybody!
We’ll see you back here next year (that’s right—-I’m sluffing off on New Years Eve and taking the day off New Years Day). Hope you guys have a wonderful New Years, and see you next year!!!

Scott, You should ask the guys at Epson why there are no 3880’s or 4880’s. I have been waiting for a month after my 2400 died. I finally ordered a refurbished 2400 with an extended warrantee. Hey got a cool tip I just discovered: When getting or e-mailing photos from your Iphone instead of just attaching to an e-mail, do a copy>paste from your camera roll and you will get a full resolution photo.(I’m probably the last person to figure this out)
Woops, Just realized that tips in your “The IPhone Book”. Like the instruction manuals I’m bad about skipping chapters.
Scott,
Happy New Years to you as well! Can’t wait to watch the show later today!! Btw I am still ready for Jan 7th to come so I can see this new D-Town TV
All the best,

Scott, the show #215 link is not posting correctly, bouncing back to #214.
Cheers,
David
It will post later in day.
Like the Sean Busher link, a lot of compositing and matte painting techniques in there, a lightbulb has just gone off in my head. I am a matte painter and photographer I shoot my own background plates.
I seperate photography and TV/film design, I have just discovcered a commercial aspect that I could go into.
Thanks for the late Christmas Present,
Rich
BTW Happy New Year
Thanks for the Sean Busher link makes me need to go out and take more pics today………..amazing work
Yes you earned 10 husband points.
but lost 15 for bringing up the points in the first place.
Will you ever learn.
Congrats on the husband points and I can rest your mind at ease on the Farve thing. Case in point, I shot the Bears/Packers game on New Years Eve 3 years ago when Farve was supposed to be playing his last game. Even got the ending where Andrea Kramer asked him with tears running down his face, “What are you feeling emotionally?” and Farve’s answer…”I think its pretty obvious, Andrea!” Last game? Yes, No, Yes, No but Yes, but “no I don’t think I will retire.” So I think if your still shooting next NFL season (which you will be), Farve will probably still be passing! Confucius say, a Happy Wife is a Happy Husband!
Tom Q
Tom:
You know what they say down South here. “If momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”
I was totally kidding about the husband points. I have the greatest wife in the world, which is why she wanted me to shoot in the first place.
Happy New Year!
-Scott
Husband points you did indeed earn, but somehow I think the wives count those points differently then we do.
Favre looks dumb in a Vikings jersey anyway. Saved you some HD space
Sure, Scott the monkey thing at the end is “a trite, pompous soliloquy weighed down by an obvious lack of imagination saddled with awkward script that sometimes feels forced, leaving the viewer frustrated and confused as the monkey fails to establish himself as the hero of a post apocalyptic utopia where the snowman, who phones in a somewhat pedestrian performance in what could have been his On Golden Pond moment, falls pray to a director whose cinematographic swan song may be this mostly unwatchable slow-paced and grossly clichéd story that barely stays afloat with two clashing perspectives that neither delight nor challenge the viewer”…
BUT, other than that…
Trev J.
How you stood on the sidelines of a cold Soldier Field and didnt want to shoot Jay Cutlers 4 td’s, AP’s 2 fumbles, Favres miraculous 4th down TD to send it to overtime game win for the too-little too-late Bears (sorry, grew up in MN
) I dont know?!
Youre more man than I am, I would have had the gear and been fillin’ the cards.
Thanks for the Busher link, he is insane!
Scott,
Great job on the husband points grab! Speaking of Epson, I remember reading several weeks back about a shoot you did regarding using Epson Printers that was going up on Kelby Training. Any news on that?
Thanks Scott for mentioning Sean Busher! Best wishes to you & yours in the New Year!
I really like the fact that Dave included a special prank for new Photoshop users. Because they’re not confused enough?
Scott, the “fire my doctor” quote will also work for Michael Jackson (not that there is any comparison to the King of Rock).
Thanks for posting that link to Sean Busher. Amazing work!
Great show, fun as always! You guys are one of the best online when it comes to podcasts! All the best for the 2010…
Hey there! I wish you a Happy New Year 2010, Scott! It’s always great to read articles in your blog
Never understood why people think that wasting other people’s time is funny.
Hey Scott -
Not only did you miss perhaps the last opportunity to photograph Favre, you also missed the chance to photograph the Bears winning a game!
Now there’s a rare event
I was moved to wracking sobs by the Monkey episode, or maybe that was because I had just learned before I saw it that I made a withdrawal from my IRA and didn’t withhold taxes and now I don’t have the money to pay them. Could have been that instead. Hard to tell. Happened at exactly the same time. Yeah, it was probably the IRA thing instead of the monkey thing.
If anyone skipped over the Sean Busher link, go back and check it out! Incredible.
Hi Scott,
I was thinking to apply for a Photo Walk Leader to the town of Corfu (of course for the next Photo Walk) when i read your interview, at cafe Press, saying that you would like to lead a Photo Walk in the Island. That would be great! I hope i can help you and be part of this.
Happy New Year!!!
