New First DVD/Book Project of 2010: “Photo Recipes: Behind The Scenes”
Hi Gang:
Here’s a quick video about my latest project called “Photo Recipes: Behind The Scenes” published by Peachpit Press, which is a DVD/Book combo based on one of the most popular sections of my Digital Photography book series, Volumes 1, 2 and 3.
You can order yours now (they’re in stock now—-well at least they were last night when I wrote this) at:
- Amazon.com
- Barnes & Noble.com
- Borders (now back-ordered)
or wherever cool new books are sold.

Man, don’t ya just love that one click buying at Amazon.
I’ve enjoyed your Photoshop and Lightroom books. They’re fun to read, never dry and contain simple step-by-step instructions. I’m confident the new Photo Recipes DVD/Book will offer the same great content. Can’t wait to pick it up. A suggestion, if I may: please do an extensive video tutorial on hand blending several exposures into one image using PS CS4!
Just ordered it! Can’t wait, got your other photography books and have told a bunch of my friends who got them as well! Keep on sharing the knowledge! Thanks Scott.
Hi,
New Dvd, sounds and looks very good. Lot of learn from. Congrats to you on the first one for the new year.
Hope to get this soon in India. It’s very difficult to find your books in India. Very rarely they have them in stocks.
I ordered my copy from Amazon. I have enjoyed your other books a lot and guess this will not be a exception. My project for 2010 is a photo 365 project.
This is a really great Idea. I just got an email from Amazon about this too and immedietly went and ordered it. It was my favourite section in the books too!
Great news – looking forward to reading this. I wonder how long is the DVD Scott?
Thanks
Hi Ed:
The DVD is about 2 hours, and we cover a LOT of ground in that time.
-Scott
I ordered it when I got the email from Amazon announcing it. The Book/DVD arrived yesterday and my wife and I will be checking it out tonight. I’m sure we’ll pick up lots of hints and tips from it.
Hi Zack:
You’re the first person to get one, so let me know what you think.
-Scott
Scott,
Unfortunately my first experience with the DVD wasn’t a good one
. For some reason it will not play in my Samsung Bluray player (which play DVDs in addition to Bluray discs). I was hoping to be able to watch it on my big screen TV. It does work fine on my computer though so my wife and I plan on watching it tonight before the BCS National Championship game. Should I be able to play it on my TVs DVD player?
Replying to my own reply…Just in case anyone is curious the DVD isn’t designed to be played on a TV only computer.
Just pre ordered this from Amazon.co.uk. Less than 17 quid! I just have to wait now. Thats the tough thing.
I have so thoroughly enjoyed and continue to use your three previous books. They are such a great source of reference for me.
Have you any plans on doing anything over here in the UK this year? That would be just great too.
Regards
Dave K.
Even without being able to see the video (I’m at work), I hopped on amazon and ordered mine. I love all of the digital photography books, and your Photoshop books, and your online training, so I figure this will be no different! Looking forward to them!
Wow Scott, sounds like a killer book/dvd combo. It’s definitely going on my wish list. I would say keep the price as it is…makes it all the more enticing
I’m working to build up a photography business and am having trouble getting things started. I’m planning on doing a few shoots in 2010 and starting a Project 365, so hopefully this will help me out quite a bit.
Thanks!
Hi Scott!
Is this also going to be a Kelby Training-class?
http://www.peachpit.com/promotions/promotion.aspx?promo=137574
I just ordered the combo, and I currently have a running subscription over at Kelby Training. I guess the extras in the book-part of the combo is worth it anyways:)
Or is the whole package just produced by Kelby Media Group Inc.?
Hi Scott,
I got my copy of the DVD yesterday – it totally rocks. I loved this section in the digital photography books, having you go through it on the DVD helps immensely.
Thanks!
Andy
My copy has shipped from Amazon a few days ago. Looking forward to another Kelby best-seller!
Scott, I’m thinking like Simen (I’m cinfident this one is not on SKtraining) when I see videos for sale in other places I always wonder if they are training tutorials that are also on the training site. I am, and will be, a member of SKtraining and would buy other videos you have I just don’t want to buy one if it’s already on your pay web site. Is there a way to tell the difference?
Hi Ken (and Simen),
I can jump in and help with this one. First off, this is a Peachpit Press product although we’ll sell it at Kelby Training much like we do all of Scotts book.
Next, Its not online at Kelby Training.
As for wondering if something is online and/or on a DVD – basically we name our online training courses the same as our DVDs. So if you see the Mastering Layers in CS4 course on Kelby Training, its the same content as the Mastering Layers in CS4 DVD. Not all online training courses become DVDs though.
Hope this helps Ken.
- Matt K
Thanks, scottkelbytraining.com is well worth the price!
One of the things that I like about the book/DVD ROM package is that it’s mine. I have the content even if and when my Kelby training subscription lapses. I would be happy to have the opportunity to buy the training videos in this format.
Andy
Andy, you can. =)

Scott,
Love your Digital Photography books and recommend it fro anyone who want to learn how to shoot better images. This books sounds like a perfect compliment to that set of three. 2 hours of video, sounds like I could learn lots!
You going to offer NAPP members a special deal or autographed copies?
Scott,
I am always amazed you find the time to do so many great things. How the &*%# do you manage it! I need some of that!
Steve
Steve you are so right. Maybe Scott’s next book should be “How to Make a 24 Hour Day Last 48 Hours”. Or is there a secret Kelby vitamin?
It takes half my day following his stuff!(I need to get a life)
Happy New Year Scott!
Just ordered the book and I am sure it will be amazing! I am living in the US right now but should go back to France in the next few months, you will have to organize a seminar there! All my friends got hooked to the Scott Kelby publications I showed them
Take care and thank you for all the great tips and inspiration!
Benoit
I already have it ordered! 4 copies… everyone in my office wanted one. They should be here in a day or so. We really enjoy all of your efforts – THANKS!
Brian
Ours came yesterday afternoon. What a happy bonus to find that I can load the lessons on my iPod also! I totally appreciate your style and thoroughness.
Thanks again,
Brian
Hi Scott,
great idea! But I have some questions:
How many shots do you explain in the book/dvd?
Is it really different from your three photography books?
Scott, it’s funny because I literally was just saying to myself yesterday that I really enjoyed your photography books, but I wish I knew of a good video that would actually walk me through it. (I learn much better hands on, but who doesn’t?) I couldn’t see the video because I’m at work and it’s blocked (how dare they try to force me to be productive…), but I just ordered it on Amazon anyway and absolutely cannot wait for it to come!
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Scott,
This is a nice surprise. I’ve read the first two Digital Photography Books and they’re full of great information. This format would be perfect for your future Photoshop and Lightroom books.
Sounds good…
Not available in UK yet but will pre order with Amazon uk – loving your work and can’t wait to get my hands on this!!!
Cool cant wait to see them, and I just signed up for your January Arlington TX seminar
Dear Scott,
I’ve just end reading Digital Photography Vol 2 and Photoshop Cs4 for Digital Photography. Wow Wonderful, REALLY WONDERFUL!
I’ve seen there’s a new Digital Photography Vol 3 and Photoshop Cs4 Down Dirty & Tricks, is possible to have them in my mother language Italian?
Thank you
Mauro
Ordered my copy this morning. Can’t wait to check it out.
I CAN’T WAIT! I have all your other books and have LEARNED SO MUCH from you, I can’t even tell you! THANKS for all the great work you do to help us learn the ‘ropes’!! I’ve been in photography for only 3 years now (digital) and my photos are improving almost daily because of YOU!!!! You ROCK!
Scott,
Have read your #1 and #2 book, am looking for #3. Great tips/pointers havd learned a lot.
Am a National Park photo geek and will soon to have been to all the photogenic parks. Am
doing Death Valley in March and Katmai in Sept. Can you give me some hints as to how to
approach Death Valley, time of day for certain shots etc, some classic and not so classic shots
I need to get while I’m there. Thanks for the help.
JGBishop
Hi Scott,
What a great idea!! You’ve certainly hit the ground running into 2010
)
Amazon UK are accepting pre orders with a UK price of £16.49 which is a saving of 51% on the RRP of £33.71, so needless to say an order has been placed.
Keep up the great work & I’ll see you for a Guinness when you travel over,
Cheers, Glyn
Scriv – Is the lighting on the video above a little dark?
Scott – Love you stuff, can’t wait to check it out. Do you do beginning to end with all the photoshop/lightroom work at the end of the shoots?
yeah, that bright red jacket was killer… no, really, the vid was dark due to an upload problem with blip. we shot it yesterday and uploaded late last night and decided not to worry over it. sorry gang.
scriv, video guy.
Just ordered the book from Amazon at the amazing low price of $29.69! I look forward to the book getting here. Scott’s always got great tips, and I’m constantly going back to his books for references.
Definitely looking forward to it!
Wow! Another book!!! How is it that you’re able to write ‘em faster than I can read ‘em, Scott? My wife is starting to think I should just hand over my weekly paycheck directly to you. Either that or we figure out some way to claim you as a dependent.
Congrats on what will no doubt be another success!
Trev J.
Amazon is sold out. The largest bookstore in the world is sold out. Call the printer. Call someone. Call Oprah. Does Staples print books? They use that spiral binding so the new book will lay flat while drooling.
It’s me again. Barnes and Noble is sold out too.
it’s about time you got to work Scott. Jeez. It’s January 5th. I would have hoped you didn’t slack off so much for the 1st 4 days of the year.
In all seriousness… among your many understated talents must be that your are a great manager. We all know that it takes an army of very talented people to run the various arms of Scott Kelby, Inc…. but it takes a great leader too. Cheers to you Scott! Best of luck with the new book/dvd.
Just ordered mine too! Can’t wait!! Thanks for always packing tons of useful information in your books. I have several of them and love them all!
I ordered one. Thinking about it, Scott’s developed quite the reputation if I’m ordering books with no reviews and without paging through it. Don’t let me down man….
How the heck do you write so many books?
Scott this is Chad from Jersey (Imet you 2 days in a row at PPE at the Javits Center) and you came out with this like you said, thanks for being who you are – Barns & Noble here we come
Can’t wait. I went straight to Amazon from your blog. You just need to go ahead a put a 1 click button right on your page!
Scott,
Around the 4:44 mark in lesson 2 the url scottkelby.com/recipegear shows up in the video. I just tried that link and get a 404 (not found) error. So far I’ve watched lesson 1 and 2 and have learned so much. Great, great stuff!
Scott has come up with yet another gem. I love his “No Bullshit” stance on teaching. He tells it like it is, without all the smoke and mirrors. I can’t wait to get this! I am still perusing his 3 volumes on digital photography, and this will be a wonderful way to help understand the techniques in these books. I’m much better at a physical human showing me, teaching me, than reading. I love to read, but this is just such an awesome idea and deal. Thanks, Scott. I can’t wait for you to come back to Connecticut and have another Digital Photography/Photoshop workshop! Meanwhile, this will keep me busy!
I love Scott and Matt!!!! I plan to order the book/dvd but was wondering if the info. in this new book is all the same info. in the volumes 1, 2 and #3 of scott’s books that I already have?
Hey Scott,
Am I missing something? I am trying to get the gear list by going to http://www.scottkelby.com/recipegear but it keeps giving me an error……Anyone else having this problem?
Found a blooper while watching one of the videos today. In lesson 11, Landscape Photography, Scott is talking about wide angle lenses and he says “14 millimeter CAMERA on a full frame camera” when he meant to say 14 mm lens. This occurs at the 4:25 minute mark of the video.
Hi Scott.
Have you thought of producing an iPhone app with your photo recipes? I like that section in your camera books (I have all three), but it would be great to have a similar resource in your pocket when you’re out and about (it would be great visually on an iPhone too). Just a thought. Keep up the great work!
I got the book yesterday from amazon and enjoy it very much. My book starts to fade at the end and ends with about 10 blank pages the last page with anything on it is 73. There is no index and it seems to stop abruptly. There is an offer of online acces that is inside the back cover but that is all. Am I missing a bunch of pages?
You have some honest ideas here. I done a research on the issue and discovered most peoples will agree with your blog.
