Thursday News Stuff
Before we get started, how about a big round of applause for Laura Heald, assistant to Bill Frakes and my awesome Guest Blogger yesterday. I totally dug her post (and so did a lot of other folks), and I particularly like her writing style. Very engaging! Thanks Laura (you’ve got an amazing job, and a 2nd career as a writer, too!)!!! Now, onto the news:
Share your favorite iPhone App: Maybe snag a $50 iTunes Gift Card
My buddy Terry White is running a very cool, simple, fun contest over at his new site, “BestAppSite.com” and all you do is share what you favorite iPhone App is, and you’re registered to win a $50 iTunes Gift Card. Easy enough (here’s the link).
Giving RC the Love (and tales of his midnight tweak)
My buddy RC Concepcion was listening when you guys pointed out the Arrow/Direction problem in new Portfolio design (link) and son-of-a-gun if he didn’t go in there and tweak the code so now it moves in the direction you guys felt it should. I also just wanted to thank RC Concepcion, and give him some love, not only for his helpful Q&A Tuesday about the new portfolio design, but for helping so many commentators with their questions as well. It’s an RC love fest (but a well-deserved one). Thanks RC and I agree with everybody else—you rock! (and I can’t wait for your class either!).
Dallas, Texas here I come!
I have nearly 400 photographers already signed up for my “Photoshop for Digital Photographers” workshop there on Friday, January 29th, so don’t miss out on all the learning and fun. Here’s the link—-come and hang out with me for the day—I promise to make it worth your while.
Oklahoma City, here comes Corey Barker!
Photoshop super genius guy Corey Barker is taking our “Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks” tour to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, January 27th (it’s just a few weeks away). If you’re out that way, and into Photoshop, you gotta check this day you—he will blow you mind (and you’ll learn so much your head will hurt). NAPP members go just $79, everybody else is $99. Here’s the link.
The Amazing Photography of Mark Zibert
Mark first caught my eye with his incredible series of ads he did for Adidas, and then Brad Moore sent me his link again this week, and I checked out his stuff once more, and just wow. What a combination of photography and Photoshop skills. Go check out his work if you have a quick sec (His Adidas stuff is there too). Totally cool stuff (here’s the link).
The First Blog Review of my Photo Recipes Live DVD/Book Combo is out
Although my new Photo Recipes Live: Behind the Scenes DVD/Book combo just came out last week, the blog “World Through a Camera Lens” has posted the first in-depth review. Here’s the link.
NOTE: I just got word that Amazon.com now has the Photo Recipes combo back in stock, ready for immediate shipping. Here’s the link.
Thanks it for today everybody!
I’m staying home today and working on a new book (if I go into the office, I’ll just sucked into an endless vortex of meetings), so while it’s unlikely that I’ll have a kick butt day, I sure hope you do!

Scott, any news on dtowntv?
I’m low on funds after the holidays, so I’m actually holding out on a month of KelbyTraining until RC gets that class up; I was completely blown away by your portfolio, and I’ve shown it to a ton of people. Can’t wait to see the magic behind it!
Also wanted to say that I got a $50 Amazon gift card and spent it on the Kindle version of your Digital Photography trilogy. Easily the best money I’ve spent on photography gear so far. In addition to filling in the early gaps (I jumped straight into photography at a higher level as a job without starting off properly, so there’s a vacuum of early knowledge), I’ve laughed to the point of tears several times. Many “AHA!” moments as well as “HAHA!” moments.
Chris, I’ve been a member for over a year and renewed with the first xtra Scott gave. Well worth the $’s! NAPP is also a good investment.
Hi Scott,
Agreed, awesome Guest Post yesterday; really enjoyed that one.
Re your new Photo Recipes Live, Amazon UK too have them back in stock, but for how long is another thing…lol
All the best to you,
Glyn
Loved the QA with RC and the fact that he replied to so many people’s posts who had questions. Any chance that he might be willing to divulge that information about the arrows/slide direction fix for those of us willing to dive into the .fla file? I did fix the menu bar to sit at the bottom instead of in the center, but I haven’t had a chance to get into it enough to find the arrow fixes. The fact that they go the wrong way is driving me crazy to point of holding off on going live with it until I fix it… well, maybe not going ‘fully’ live anyway; it’s too sweet not to show it off somewhere…
Porfolio V2
btw, don’t know if anyone mentioned it in the previous comments on other posts, but where RC purchased that particular template there is the option to buy ALL the template designs for 50% off, and you get all their future designs for free!! (plus there are some pretty cool free components to download as well)
Laura’s post was amazing and inspiring! Her passion is contagious. And, as noted, she is a wonderful writer. I wish her much success in her career and hope we hear more from her.
Amazon uk just confirmed my copy of recipe book has been dispatched – reading the review has got me looking forward to it even more!!
Scott, I can’t say I was the first with a full review of your new Photo Recipes Live: Behind the Scenes DVD/Book combo but I put a mini review last week http://bit.ly/84uqfs I’ve enjoyed what I’ve learned so far and will put together a come complete review soon.
Laura is an incredible photographer. Thanks for a great post.
Hey Scott,
Stoked is a word that barely covers the excitement and anticipation I have about attending both the OKC and Dallas events in 2 weeks. Thanks for getting around this part of the country.
Mike
I don’t think it’s any coincidence people like Laura, Joe McNally, Bill Frakes, etc, tell great stories not just through their photography, but through the written word as well. A great story is a great story. Communication is communication. These people have a gift.

Scott, no intentions to drop by Barcelona any time soon?
I stopped in to Barnes and Noble to pick up Photo Recipes Live and they were out of stock but by ordering in store and shipping to my home, the price was only $23 or $24 and it arrived just a couple days later.
Thanks for linking to my blog, Scott. Really enjoyed the Behind the Scenes DVD. Keep up the good work!
Once again I will say that RC is absolutely fantastic. He has given me a lot of web help and he’s very unselfish about doing so. RC more than rocks … he kicks ass!
“My buddy RC Concepcion was listening when you guys pointed out the Arrow/Direction problem in new Portfolio design (link) and son-of-a-gun if he didn’t go in there and tweak the code so now it moves in the direction you guys felt it should.”
