Two Industry Icons To Be Inducted Into The Photoshop Hall of Fame

halsplsh.jpg

I’m proud to announce that well known Photoshop author, instructor, and London-based fashion photographer Martin Evening, along with Adobe’s Prinicpal Product Manger for Photoshop, John Nack, will be officially inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame during a special presentation ceremony that’s part of the opening keynote at the Photoshop World Conference & Expo (held Sept 4-6, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino).

The Photoshop Hall of Fame was founded in 2001 to honor those individuals whose contributions to the art, business, and development of Adobe Photoshop have enduring value.

It’s an honor to recognize Martin and John in this way, and to add their names to the Photoshop World Hall of Fame trophy alongside some of our industry’s most valued, respected, and beloved individuals. My sincere congratulations to them both for their amazing achievements.

Adobe VP John Loiacono to Headline Photoshop World Conference Opening Keynote

jlkey.jpg

Great news! John Loiacono, Adobe’s Senior Vice President of Creative Solutions, will be the featured keynote presenter at the opening keynote at Photoshop World Las Vegas (the morning of September 4th). Johnny L. (as he’s known to friends, and previous Photoshop World keynote crowds) is definitely not “a suit” (if you’ve ever seen one of his presentations, you know he’s totally “one of us”), and he’s a very engaging, and downright fun presenter to watch.

But all that aside, one of the of the things I like best about having Johnny L. as our featured presenter is that he uses Photoshop World as a platform to either launch a new Adobe product (like he did when he launched the Lightroom 2 Public Beta at Photoshop World in Orlando), or he uses it to give the crowd on hand a sneak peak at some unreleased Adobe “future technology,” which is always amazing.

If you’re going to the keynote, make sure you get there early to get a good seat (by the way; our keynote theme this year is somewhat of a Star Trek parody. That’s all I’m gonna say). See you at the keynote!

{cs3launch} Our Photo Gallery From Adobe’s CS3 Launch Event In New York City

The Photoshop Guys were in New York yesterday at Adobe’s CS3 Launch Event, taping a special bonus episode of Photoshop TV (which is set to air tomorrow) from the launch event, complete with one-one-one interviews with Adobe’s CEO Bruce Chizen and an interview with Adobe’s Senior VP of Creative Solutions Business Unit, John Loiacono (who’ll be doing the Photoshop World keynote next week), among others. But in the meantime, I posted a flickr gallery where you can check out these photos from the event (taken by our man Matt Kloskowski).

Adobe Announces Photoshop Extended Version

Two Photoshops? Yup. It’s official; when CS3 ships (sometime this spring), there will be, for the first time ever, two editions of Photoshop: a Standard and an Extended edition. (That’s why the splash screen on the free Public Beta Preview version of CS3 says “Standard Edition”—so you knew there had to be some other version, right?). Photoshop CS3 Extended has all the features of the Standard version plus an extended feature set (Adobe hasn’t revealed the exact features quite yet—they’re saving it for the official launch event announced yesterday to be held in New York City on March 27, 2007). In Adobe’s press release today (which I’m honored to be quoted in) they did reveal that the Extended version includes “…a new set of capabilities for integration of 3-D and motion graphics, image measurement and analysis. Photoshop CS3 Extended also simplifies the workflow for professionals in architecture, engineering, medical and science.” For more info, check out Adobe’s press release or the special page on Adobe.com

Web-based version of Photoshop coming!

Yesterday, CNET reported that Adobe’s CEO Bruce Chizen noted that a free Web-based version of Photoshop would be released this later this year, and that Adobe would make money off it by selling Web advertising (ala Google). Apparently, this version won’t have the full feature set of either Photoshop CS3 or Elements 5, but will be a special version created just for the Web. Either way; I gotta tell ya—I didn’t see this one coming.
